Stephen King is known as the “The King of Horror.” His long career consists of some of the most frightening novels-turned-films such as Pet SemataryThe ShiningCarrie, and It, which only intensified my fear of clowns. So being known as the “King of Horror” it’s hard to believe that the author gets scared himself.

Appearing on the TV Series, Eli Roth’s History of Horror, King told a story about how in 1999 he was in the hospital for a month recovering after being hit by a driver. His son came by for a visit and brought him a VHS tape to watch. He said halfway through he had to turn it off because it was “too freaky.”

So what film scared the man that’s been scaring us for the last five decades?

The Blair Witch Project.

While the movie isn’t real, it was ahead of its time when it hit theaters in ’99. It FELT real with the whole “found footage” storyline involving a mythical witch; adding to the spookiness of it all.

So the real question is, did King ever finish it? He says he did once he was out of the hospital.

One thing about “Blair Witch:” the damn thing looks real. Another thing about “Blair Witch:” the damn thing feels real. And because it does, it’s like the worst nightmare you ever had, the one you woke from gasping and crying with relief because you thought you were buried alive and it turned out the cat jumped up on your bed and went to sleep on your chest.
